However one decides to spell his first name, Alfons Mucha is best known for his graphic art work - innumerable posters and pieces of advertising and so on - objects which defined the art nouveau period; indeed before the term art nouveau was coined, the movement was referred to as le style Mucha.

What not many people know is that having gained fame and fortune from this ephemera, he set about to paint his great and 'serious' work.

Enthused with everything Mucha, I set off across the world to find as much of the great man as I could.
